At Goshen College, we are committed to making an impact in the world by tackling complex problems. The informatics program, a collaboration of the business and mathematics departments, offers students a means to do that by weaving technology and computation with a variety of disciplines and domains. Such an integrative approach prepares students to encounter life and vocation after graduation with a perspective that recognizes the many parts of a whole and enables them to successfully collaborate in a variety of contexts like healthcare and social science.
Students interested in applied computing and other disciplines will find a balance of courses in computer science and another academic area of their choice. The informatics program includes a major and a minor, with majors drawing from a variety of courses within and outside the department to fulfill academic requirements and to further develop a focal area in business, biology, communication and media or mathematics. The Goshen College approach to informatics is about more than teaching skills and concepts. It’s also about transforming data and information into knowledge and, by extension, cultivating in students the ability to solve problems and adapt to dynamic situations.
